Mathematically the Rubik's Cube is a permutation group: an ordered list, with 54 fields with 6*9 values (colours) on which we can apply operations (basic face rotations, cube turns and the combinations of these) which reorient the permutation group according to a pattern.The old design is durable, cost efficient and easy to disassemble. Also, it makes the mediocrity of the Rubik's brand cube even more inexcusable because this is not even the original design. Either stick with the simple design from the 1980s or redesign it to be a good speed cube, instead of redesigning the core for no reason..
